Chaste Tree - The Strong Silent Type of Herb

Chaste Tree (vitex agnus-castus) is a member of the mint family. It is an herb that impacts the pituitary gland, increasing progesterone. I take chaste tree once a day in capsule form. It is a slow acting herb and may take a few months before you see results. I was taking chaste tree for a few months when I ran out. I decided not to buy anymore because I couldn’t tell that it was having any effect. I was on several other herbs when I started taking chaste tree, so it was difficult to tell if it was making a difference and balancing my hormones. I am a minimalist when it comes to medicine, whether it is plant medicine or pharmaceuticals. I don’t want to take something unless I am certain it is helping me. I stopped taking chaste tree when I ran out of my first bottle because I wasn’t sure it was helping. After being off it for about 3 weeks I could definitely feel a difference as some of my symptoms started to return, so I started taking it again.

When I stopped the chaste tree some of my perimenopause symptoms began to return including a feeling of being off balance. It is not like vertigo or anything that extreme. It’s just a subtle lightheaded feeling. My sensitivity to light, which had improved, started to return. I started wearing blue light glasses last year when I was under fluorescent lights because the light would make me dizzy and disoriented. With the chase tree, I didn’t have to wear the glasses very often. That issue started to return during those 3 weeks without taking it. That was proof enough for me that chaste tree was helping.

Once I started taking chaste tree again, I felt things come back into balance. It did not take very long at all to come back into balance.

Chaste tree is not a quick fix for acute symptoms. It is an herb that should be taken consistently in perimenopause in order to affect the pituitary gland and help to bring hormones into balance. As always, do your research, especially if you are taking pharmaceuticals or have any chronic health conditions.
